Supporting Student Mental Health
At Lauries, the Pastoral Care system is designed to ensure that every student receives the support they need for their mental and emotional wellbeing. With a dedicated pastoral team, daily interactions and strong relationships with Heads of House, Home Class teachers and Primary staff and the support of counselling professionals, students are well-equipped to thrive both academically and personally in a nurturing and supportive environment.
In Secondary School, each student is known by their Head of House (HOH) and Home Class teacher, who are integral to the Pastoral Care system. These staff oversee the wellbeing of students and stay with each student for their whole Lauries Journey. These staff play a crucial role in the daily lives of students. The Home Class teachers meet with students every morning, providing a consistent point of contact and support. This daily interaction helps to build strong relationships with students, allowing them to quickly identify and address any issues that may arise.
Similarly, in the Primary School, teachers and support staff check in with students every morning. This routine ensures that younger students also receive the attention and care they need, fostering a sense of security and belonging from an early age, before they transition to the House system in the Secondary School.
Lauries is equipped with a team of counselling staff, including an Indigenous and Multicultural Support Officer. These professionals provide specialised support to students, addressing a wide range of mental health and wellbeing needs. Their expertise is invaluable in helping students navigate personal challenges and develop resilience.
The school also engages with external mental health services, which are accessible through the Lauries Learning Gateway (LLG). Through these efforts, Lauries fosters a nurturing environment where students can grow into well-rounded, resilient individuals.
