From the Dean of Identity and Community

Vale Br Denis Sullivan

This week students and staff attended the funeral of Br Denis Sullivan with our music staff and Brotherhood providing the music for the service. Br Denis Sullivan dedicated 60 years of his life to the Christian Brothers and the service of God's mission. It is astounding to think that Br Denis dedicated his life to the educational mission of the Brothers that was founded by Blessed Edmund Rice serving in Christian Brothers schools like St Laurence's and even contributing to the missionary work in places like the Philippines.

The service to faith of those like Br Denis cannot be underestimated. It is a lifetime of service where the needs of others are placed before family and the personal lives of those who dedicate themselves. What came through in the reflections of the life of Br Denis was that he always put others ahead of himself. His impact was felt through students and staff who all were inspired by the gentle nature of his presence.

The Christian Brothers live by presence, compassion and liberation. Through the reflections we heard Br Denis was always present to all those he met taking time to know and understand them. His presence to others was underscored by his compassion and love for all those he served including the educational mission of the brothers. Through his love for his mission and those he served they ultimately experienced liberation or freedom and their lives were guided by love.

We keep in our prayers Br Denis Sullivan, his family, the congregation of the Christian Brothers and all those whose lives were impacted through the presence, compassion and liberation of Br Denis.
