Around the Grounds – Week 5 Sport Wrap Up

In the fifth round of the AIC Competition, St Laurence's College competed against St Edmund’s College in the Senior Competitions, while the Primary students played Ambrose Tracey. The College performed well in Tennis, winning almost all the games played, and also had a strong showing in Basketball, with the majority of teams securing victories. The First V had another impressive win, maintaining their positive start to the season. In Rugby League, the College had a successful day, winning most of the games played. A special congratulations to the First XIII for securing their first win of the season, a well-deserved reward for the hard work put in by the players and coaches.

This weekend, we have one of the important ‘Rivalry’ rounds, with the College taking on Marist Ashgrove, in what is sure to be close games in all sports played. Best of luck to all the students and staff members involved on the weekend.

Track and Field

The Track and Field season has commenced, with training at UQ already underway. The College also participated in 2 Warm Up events at QSAC, achieving positive results in all events. The energy and participation from students of all age groups has been fantastic.

Additionally, in Athletics, the College had 16 students compete at the Met East Track and Field championships last week. All students represented the College exceptionally well and should be proud of their efforts.

Primary Rugby League

Last week we had our Junior Rugby League team compete in the Met East Primary school carnival. It was busy schedule, with the team playing five games in the day and the team finished 3rd overall, which was a great result.

All Schools AFL

Next week will see our Junior and Senior Teams compete in the State Semi Finals for the AFL Queensland All Schools Cup.  The matches will be taking place at the Gold Coast Suns Stadium, and it will be a great opportunity for the students to play at a current AFL ground.

Best of luck to both teams in their matches.
