From the Pastoral Office

This week was an extremely busy one that featured the Senior Ensembles Music Camp and two of the most significant events on the College calendar for the year.

Awards Night

It is always such a pleasure to celebrate with students, families and staff the progress and success of students in various realms over the course of the year. Thursday night was a lovely occasion and congratulations to all of the students whose efforts were recognised and to all of the other quiet achievers who were a whisker away from receiving the subject, service and sporting awards.

Year 12 Graduation

A most noteworthy occasion for our Year 12 students, their parents and our community took place on Friday. For many Year 12 students their graduation assembly followed by the guard of honour was a treasured moment in their Lauries Journey before coming back down to earth to prepare for their external exams which begin next week. Particular thanks to Mr Knight, Mr du Plessis and the Heads of House for their leadership and organisation of this memorable day. We wish our Year 12 cohort the very best for the exams to come.

Year 8

Next week will see our Year 8 cohort, numerous staff and Old Boys travel to Noosa North Shore for their camp. The camp will focus on developing resilience, teamwork and House camaraderie through a variety of fun, but challenging activities. A reminder to ensure that your son is involved in packing his gear for camp. This helps to ensure and reinforce the belongings that he needs to be responsible for looking after and bringing home. We will meet at the basketball courts outside the Sports Hall on Wednesday morning.

Mentoring

Our Mentoring Weeks are underway with students reflecting on their progressive results and planning for the remainder of the academic year. We have asked that all Middle School students email their reflection sheet to home so that a conversation can occur at home in order to allow parents and caregivers to support student goals.

Finishing Well

Whilst the fanfare of the Senior Grad can have an unsettling effect on other year levels, our hope is that students can focus on the weeks ahead and their demands.  Students should have an up-to-date study planner as they are aware of the assessment requirements that they are working towards with exam schedules being published in the coming weeks. It is essential that students look closely at these commitments and timeframes in order to ensure that they submit assignments on time and are prepared for exams.

Best wishes for the week ahead.
