Events-28 March
Mini Vinnies News-Kate Flanagan
Show Your True Colours Day was another huge success with many students and Primary staff wearing their favourite team’s jersey at school. This helped create a great community atmosphere in the College. Altogether, we raised $465 for Caritas, which is an excellent charity that seeks to help less fortunate communities with sustainable options to aid their development. Students have seen how our neighbour, Samoa, is struggling with freshwater availability. Caritas has built the local school water tanks to provide them with water on tap which enables students to attend school and lessens the chance of water-borne diseases. SLC Primary students can be very proud that they are not only contributing to a vibrant community here, but enabling students they will never meet the opportunity to attend their own school safely and happily.
A big thank you to the families who have donated Easter Eggs to our local charity, St Francis’ table. Run by Sister Salvacion Bonao, members of St Francis’ table host community lunches in South Brisbane and drop meals to people who are homebound in the local vicinity. These delicious treats will be added to the lunches coming up to provide a bit of cheer to people who feel a little isolated and I’m sure they will be gobbled up with glee by the recipients.
ILF Book Swap will be running again next term. This absolute juggernaut of an initiative will take place in the back end of Term 2. However, with holidays approaching it is a great time to ask families that if you are doing a clear-out of bookshelves over the holidays, we will happily take any novels that are appropriate to ages 8-13. They will be donated to this initiative where next term, students will be able to purchase books for $1 and all money raised goes to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (more information on this next term!)
