Dean of Primary-26 July

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

The past two weeks have been extremely busy for both year levels. The Academic Assembly and afternoon tea on Wednesday provided a great opportunity to acknowledge, celebrate and congratulate boys who achieved personal excellence in Semester One. We congratulate all of the award winners and encourage all boys to strive for their best in Semester 2.  Well done, boys! Please see list below:-

Yesterday, we conducted the annual “College Open Day.” It was a great opportunity for current and future families to experience the College.  The displays and tours are a good way for guests to see the College and for boys to share their experiences of the Lauries Journey. I thank all of the boys and staff who contributed to Open Day (especially in the Primary Precinct) for their time and effort.  I know the boys love to talk about our community and I know lots of future parents were very impressed with the passion and maturity of the boys who helped. Good job boys!

Term 3 studies are in full swing, with outstanding work occurring in all classrooms.

Year 6 classes attended an excursion to Parliament House this week as part of their unit on Government.  We also had Brett Lee, from Internet Safe Education, in last week to deliver both student and parent presentations with a focus on “Cyber Safety.”

Upcoming Events

Student Led Conferences-Tuesday 13 August 1:30-6:30pm

In Week 6 (Tuesday, 13 August) the Student Led Conferences will take place for all primary boysThe format will be an extended conference/conversation led by the boys. Parents should receive the required information and digital links next week.  Please watch the short video and follow the instructions to conduct the conversation with your son.

These conferences certainly provide a different angle to the learning conversation and the additional data can really help get a clear picture of the boys’ capabilities.

We hope these are a positive and engaging experience for all families. Please remember that school concludes at 1:15pm for all students to facilitate conferences and interviews across the College.

Over the coming weeks, we will celebrate some significant community events.

On Friday, 9 August we will celebrate the Solidarity Mass and join the Secondary boys for the Walkathon. It will again be a magnificent event and it is so important to our school culture to do something for others.  Lauries boys are famous for caring for others and lending a hand. The Walkathon is a perfect example of that spirit.  We encourage all boys to continue to raise valuable sponsorship to support the “House” charities.

On Wednesday, 14 August, we will gather at our sports fields at Runcorn for the “House Sports Day”.  It is great community day for the boys and families.

A reminder that 15-16 August are school holidays and there is no school sport that weekend. We hope all families enjoy a mini break after the Sports Day.

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (15-18 August) many Primary boys will perform at the QCMF.  The boys have been amazing at rehearsals all year and we look forward to some great performances across the festival schedule.
