Book Week in Laurie’s Primary

As a Primary School, we will be celebrating Book Week in Week 2 of Term 4.

Book Week is an initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), a non-profit organisation that has the aim of positively engaging young people with literature. The CBCA invites schools, libraries and booksellers around the country to participate in Book Week celebrations to promote and encourage a love of reading and literature.

Further details about Book Week will be provided to families shortly, but we wanted you to be aware of the following dates:

Author Visit

Tuesday, 8 October (Day 7, Week 2)

We have organised for an author to talk to the Primary boys in Book Week. The author is Sarah Armstrong. Please see her website to learn more about Sarah and the books she has written: SARAH ARMSTRONG (sarah-armstrong.com)

Character Parade

Wednesday, 9 October (Day 8, Week 2) – Period 1

Boys are invited to come dressed as a book character. This will take place on Wednesday, 9 October. The theme for the 2024 Book Week is “Reading is Magic”. We encourage the boys to get creative with their costumes. There is no expectation that boys spend a lot of money preparing their costumes – some of the best character costumes can come from recycled goods and items around the house! This could become a great school holiday project for the boys! We have enjoyed seeing the boys and the Primary staff get enthusiastically involved in this event over the past few years.

Real Men Read Evening

Wednesday, 9 October (Day 8, Week 2) – 5.00pm – 7.00pm

The purpose of this evening is to provide an opportunity for boys and their dad’s (or special male role models) to engage in a reading-related event here at the school. There will be games, prizes and a sausage sizzle to celebrate. This event has been hugely popular over the last couple of years, and we are really excited to be running it again next term.

The boys will also be invited to take part in Book Week competitions next term. We look forward to celebrating all things literature in Term 4!
