Dean of Primary-13 September
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Today we mark the end of a very busy term. It has been pleasing to see so many boys take up the challenge of juggling additional co-curricular commitments, while still performing to the best of their ability in class. In ten weeks, we have completed in a busy teaching and learning schedule, participated in Basketball, Tennis, Rugby League AIC fixtures, enjoyed lots of great music at performances and concerts, celebrated the Walkathon and Father’s Day. All of these opportunities can only be successful with the positive support of boys and parents, as well as the enormous dedication of staff and Old Boys. We thank you all for your amazing efforts and contribution to all of these experiences.
On Friday, 30 August, we welcomed our new Year 5 (2025) families to Lauries for their Orientation Day. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, very eager to find out what being a Lauries boy is all about. It was also fantastic to see our current Year 6’s engage with our incoming Year 7 students and their Head of House for the Year 7 (2025) Orientation Day. As with any change, starting at a new school or entering a new phase of learning is often met with a mix of anticipation, excitement and trepidation. We know that participating in Orientation Day activities provides a comprehensive introduction to these changes, which we know is imperative for a positive and supportive transition. Year 6 classes will be making some additional modifications in Term 4 to continue the “Transition” process.
Year 5 Music Program
All Year 5 parents would have received information recently about the opportunity to continue with instrumental music lessons next year. The Year 5 Music Program has now concluded, so any boys wishing to continue on their instruments in Year 6 must complete the music enrolment contracts sent out via the Music Department. It would be great to see many boys continue and build on the new skills they started this year. If you have any questions or require the Forms, please contact the Music Department music@slc.qld.edu.au
Year 5 2026 Enrolment Period
Enrolment interviews for Year 5, 2026, are now complete. If you know a family interested in joining Lauries in 2026 (Year 5) please check with them to ensure that they submitted their application. If they missed the enrolment period, please ask them to contact Tina McManus (Enrolments) by email enrolments@slc.qld.edu.au to commence a late application.
Important Notice for 2025
If your son is not returning to St Laurence’s College in 2025, please inform me in writing urgently (cwigan@slc.qld.edu.au). There are families on the waiting list who are enquiring about positions available, and we would love to offer enrolment opportunities if spots become available.
Term 4 Uniforms and Haircuts
Please note that the boys do not need to wear ties and blazers next term, but a term time haircut and polished shoes are essential. The boys are super clear on haircut requirements so they should be able to give barbers enough instructions to avoid any issues.
Year 6 AIC Athletic Support
In Week 1 next term, Friday 4 October, all Year 6 boys will travel to QSAC to support the AIC Athletics squad. Details have been sent to all Year 6 families this week.
End of Term Raffle
On Tuesday, we conducted our monster raffle from the hundreds of raffle tickets that were awarded to the boys for displaying positive behaviours this term. If you were able to donate a prize, on behalf of the boys we really appreciate it.
In this edition of the Primary Newsletter, you can also read about Curriculum Spotlights, Music, Date Claimers - Events and Lauries Journey Awards.
