Year 6 Students Tackle Global Tensions Through English Learning

This term, Year 6 students have explored global tensions and their effects on communities in their English lessons. They have researched various forms of intolerance, examining personal stories and their broader impacts.

Using the OREO structure—Opinion, Reason, Example, Opinion restated—students have crafted Opinion Paragraphs to address these issues for an upper primary audience. To further their understanding, they will create Multimodal Artefacts, such as posters and digital presentations, to raise awareness about their chosen tensions.

These artefacts will be featured at our Year 6 Tolerance Expo, showcasing their creativity and commitment to fostering tolerance. This initiative not only enhances their English skills but also empowers them to advocate for a more inclusive community.

Year 5 Students Shine in Persuasive Writing

This term, Year 5 students have explored the structure and language features of persuasive texts, focusing on crafting compelling arguments. Their key assessment involved writing a piece on “Why Laurie’s is the Greatest School in Australia,” incorporating a sizzling start, a clear thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a strong conclusion with a call to action.

Students have learned to use high modality words and persuasive tools like Pathos (emotional appeal) and Logos (logical appeal) to enhance their writing. Their assessment pieces reflect a solid grasp of persuasive techniques.

It’s great to hear that both cohorts have enjoyed these units of work!
