Dean of Primary

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we rapidly approach the end of the school year, I bring to your attention a number of significant events that have taken place in the last two weeks or are coming up before the end of term.

PAT-R and PAT-M Testing

This week, all Year 5’s have completed both PAT-M (Mathematics) and PAT-R (Reading) tests, with our Year 6 boys engaging with the tests next week. This was the second round of testing for Year 5 this year (first round was conducted in Term 1) and the first for Year 6, after they completed the tests at the end of Year 5 in 2023.

The tests provide data to assist in planning future programs and to measure the boys' achievements and growth in these two key areas in a 12 month cycle.

Year 6 Transition

This term, Year 6 classes have experienced some changes in routines and programs to support their transition to Middle School. Part of this saw them attend morning admin classes this week in the homerooms they will join for the next 6 years. The boys have also had a specific “Transition” assembly with some current Year 7 and Year 9 students sharing their experiences. I thank Ms Bell, Mr Burridge, the Heads of House and the Class Mentors for all of these opportunities which should help the boys go into the holidays feeling connected to, and welcome in, their new homerooms.

Primary Awards Night

As previously communicated, the Primary Awards Celebration will be held next Wednesday evening, 13 November in ERPAC.

The event will commence at 6:30pm and finish approximately 8:00pm.

Award recipients have received a letter with details for the evening, including times and uniform requirements.

On the night, a cross section of awards will be presented, videos of 2024 highlights will be shared and some of the Primary musicians will perform. It promises to be a great celebration.

All families are most welcome to attend, not just those of award recipients. If your son is not receiving an award or not performing, he is welcome attend in summer uniform (no tie or blazer) or in casual clothes if he is going home and returning to the event with parents.

Year 6 Graduation

On Thursday, 28 November, we will be celebrating the completion of primary school for our Year 6 boys. This occasion is a significant milestone for the boys and families. The night will be held in ERPAC, starting at 6:00pm. Invitations are in the “Events” section of this Newsletter.  Year 6 families should note the specific details, including for the social gathering after the ceremony.

Attention Year 5 Parents

Wednesday, you would have received an email with regards to ordering the Year 6 Shirt for 2025.  Please note that the shirts are not compulsory to order, but please note that no orders will be processed after the 15 November @3:00pm.

End of Year Activities Day

The Activities Day for Years 5 and 6 will be held on Friday, 29 November, to celebrate another great year of Lauries spirit. (Please see the details for the day on the College APP next week)

On Tuesday of the last week, (we will also conduct a final raffle draw for 2024.  Any donated prizes would be very welcome.
