Year 6: NAPLAN

Preparation and Transitioning to High School

As part of their preparation for transitioning to Year 7, our Year 6 students have been focusing on developing the key skills needed for the upcoming NAPLAN assessments in 2025. During class time, students have been exploring various test strategies to help them approach NAPLAN with confidence. This includes familiarising themselves with the NAPLAN Demonstration Site, which provides practice questions and allows students to experience the format of the test. In addition, we’ve been honing important skills such as reading comprehension strategies, effective time management, and approaching each section of the test with a clear, calm mindset. These efforts are part of a broader focus on ensuring Year 6 students feel well-prepared as they move into their Year 7 studies and take the next step in their educational journey. Additional practise and focus will continue in the early part of Year 7.

Year 5: Exploring Science with Magic Balloons Experiment

Our Year 5 students were thrilled to have the opportunity to use the high school science laboratories for a hands-on experiment, Magic Balloons. In this exciting activity, the students mixed bicarbonate of soda with vinegar to create a chemical reaction that inflated a balloon. The boys were not only captivated by the reaction itself, but also learned valuable lessons about chemical reactions, experimentation, and scientific inquiry. Lauries Primary Curriculum Update
