Dean of Primary-29 November

Dear Parents and Carers,

Today marks the end of a very successful school year. It has been a very busy, challenging and hopefully enjoyable term. This past fortnight is just a snapshot of another highlight filled year.  We have celebrated the Primary School Awards Celebration, Year 5 and Year 6 Retreat, Year 5 Carols in the Chapel, Year 6 Graduation and the Activities Day.  This year has been action packed to say the least.

2024 has been a full of academic growth, commitment to service, involvement in sport, cultural pursuits, spiritual development and a time of continuing and forming new friendships.  Through all of this, we trust that the boys tried their hardest and have continued to develop their many talents.  Moreover, we hope that each boy has continued to develop a strong notion of his own self-worth and potential and that he has been valued as an individual.  We hope that each boy has enjoyed the journey of this school year and enjoyed sharing it with both staff and other boys.

Our Year 5 crew can now look forward to being the student leaders of the Primary School. Our Year 6 boys can now anticipate the excitement and challenges of Middle School.

As the boys enter the Christmas holiday break, I hope they do so with a smile on their faces, not just because the journey of the school year is over, but also because they have enjoyed the journey.

Awards Night

Awards Night was a fantastic celebration of the school year.  The night provided the opportunity to recognize and congratulate those boys who have been high achievers in 2024.  Congratulations to all of the award winners and also to the boys who provided the entertainment throughout the evening.  It is always great to see all the boys perform with confidence in front of big crowds. Well done!

Graduation

Last night, the Year 6 boys reflected on the significant milestone of completing primary school.

As they enter Secondary next year, they can be proud of their two years on the Lauries Journey so far. They have contributed so much to our community and have been positive in all areas of school life.  At their retreat day they were able to reflect on all of the experiences they have had so far (both here at Lauries and previous primary schools) and to think about all of the adults who have supported them along the way.

The Graduation evening was a fitting celebration of their achievements and also to provide well wishes for their onward journey. Good luck boys and parents, thank you for your outstanding contribution to Lauries Primary.

On behalf of the College and all of the Year 6 families, I would like to say a huge thank you to Toni-Ann Roehrig for supplying the awesome photo back drop.  It made the family and mate photos that bit more special and we really appreciate the generous support.

Toni-Ann’s business is Double Dare Design and they do amazing work for events and Parties.

Semester 2 Reports

Academic Reports for Semester 2 will be published to Parent Lounge later next week. Parents should receive a notification when the reports are available.  I hope you find them informative and hope the boys are proud of their Semester 2 performance and efforts.

Staff News

I would like to congratulate and thank all of the Primary School staff for the great work that they have done this year. It is through their patience, dedication, professionalism and positive attitude that Lauries Primary is the great community it is. I wish them a restful and well-deserved break over the holidays.

I also acknowledge the fantastic contribution of Mr Michael Sharkey.  Michael has been on staff here at Lauries for 27 years and he has been an educator for over 30 years. He retires from fulltime teaching this year and we wish him all the very best for the future. We also wish Mr Jack Cabassi all the very best as he heads to Sydney with his family to commence a new position and adventure.

A special mention should be made of Alicia Sheehan, Head of Year 5 and Danny O’Toole Head of Year 6 for their outstanding leadership of the respective year levels this year.
